Lessons Learned

Every week I learn a few new things. Sometimes they are helpful, many times they are pointless, but occasionally they change my life. This week had a lot of fun moments between All-University SING (where I was once again reminded that I can't dance), school, and babysitting my little ones. But there were a few learning moments that stood out:

1. I found out that Jesus cooked!

While reading this week, I discovered that Jesus comes back and cooks breakfast for his disciples in John 21. This is great for a few reasons:

First, it's wonderful because I love to cook, so I instantly loved that the Bible referenced Jesus cooking. I see cooking as a way to love and serve people. The greatest conversations happen over meals, and I want to be there to provide that meal. I bet that is what Jesus had in mind. The disciples were tired and in shock to see Jesus, he was just resurrected after they each had betrayed him, and this was going to be a potentially awkward conversation...Jesus knew he needed food to calm nerves.

Secondly, and what I consider the most fun learning point this week, is that Jesus is a male (at least I think He is. We don't need to argue theologically or anything.) and Jesus cooked. Now let's take Jesus out of the picture (no offense), and I just said a MALE COOKED. This is great! I love to cook, I love to serve others through my cooking, and one day I hope to cook for a really nice husband...but notice that when the disciples were tired one morning, Jesus cooked breakfast for them. Men, next time you're hungry and think about asking your significant other for food--just think, what would Jesus do?

2. Life is all about perception.
Depending on how late I am to my 8 a.m. class on Mondays, this sign can be read two very different ways.
If you don't understand what I am talking about, put a period after "only." Then read it again, but move the period to the end of "parking." See what I'm saying? I definitely read it the wrong way Monday morning.

3. Reading is life-changing.
Growing up I was always told reading is important. We all were. "Leaders are readers" was engraved into my mind, but I never truly enjoyed reading. I definitely never read a school book, and the only books I really read were only in subjects that interested me like He's Just Not That Into You, Gossip Girl or Passion and Purity (don't judge, you probably read Harry Potter and Nancy Drew...we are just different!). But in my college career, I have discovered that I love reading. And not only do I love reading, and read often, but it changes my perspectives on life. Books make me think a little differently, and discover myself and what I truly believe, whether it agrees with the author of the book I am reading, or not. This past month I have read these books:

They are incredible books and I highly recommend them, but particularly loved Cold Tangerines and Bittersweet. I encourage you to give them a shot, they'll change your mind about reading, I promise!

Lessons are fun. I can't wait for next week!
